Dog Crafters is a grooming salon on 3330 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N in Saint Petersburg, and we groom everything from eight-pound Yorkies to Newfoundlands. Bath, partial groom, or full groom?
These three are the main appointment types, and they build on each other. Everything else on this page is an extra that can be added to any of them.

Choose a bath if…
Your dog's coat doesn't need cutting — short or smooth-coated breeds, or a long-coated dog partway between haircuts who just needs to be clean.
Choose a partial groom if…
The body coat is still holding its shape but the face, feet and sanitary areas have gotten scruffy. It stretches the gap between full grooms.
Choose a full groom if…
The coat grows continuously — poodles, doodles, Shih Tzus, Yorkies, Schnauzers. These need shaping on a regular cycle to stay comfortable.
Extras you can add to any groom
- Nail trim. Also bookable on its own, without a full appointment — handy between grooms.
- Teeth brushing. Added to any grooming appointment, for breath and everyday plaque.
- Ear cleaning and plucking. Matters most for floppy-eared and hairy-eared breeds.
- De-shedding treatment. Undercoat removal for double coats — the alternative to cutting them down.
When the coat needs more than a groom
Sometimes a coat arrives past the point where a normal groom will do. That's not a lecture — coats get away from all of us, especially in Florida humidity.
Dematting is for coats that have tangled between appointments. We look at the coat first and tell you honestly whether it can be brushed out or whether a shorter cut is kinder to your dog. Mats pull at the skin, so this is a comfort question before it's a cosmetic one.
Dogs who need extra time — nervous, elderly, or new to grooming — are handled that way rather than rushed. Mention it when you book so we can plan the appointment properly.
Choosing a Service
Which Groom Does My Dog Need?
What is the difference between a bath, a partial groom, and a full groom?
A bath is a wash, blow-dry, and brush-out with no cutting. A partial groom is that same bath plus a tidy-up of the face, feet, and sanitary areas, which keeps a dog looking neat between haircuts. A full groom adds a complete body haircut and finishing work. If your dog's coat grows and needs shaping, you want the full groom; if it doesn't, a bath or partial is usually enough.
Which grooming service does my dog actually need?
It comes down to whether the coat grows. Poodles, doodles, Shih Tzus, Yorkies and similar coats keep growing and need a full groom on a regular cycle. Double-coated dogs like German Shepherds and Huskies should not be cut down — they need a bath and a de-shedding treatment instead. Short, smooth coats like bulldogs usually just need a bath with nails and ears added. Call (727) 440-7830 if you aren't sure and we'll tell you honestly.
Can I add a nail trim, teeth brushing, or ear cleaning to a groom?
Yes. Nail trims, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and plucking, and de-shedding can all be added to any grooming appointment. A nail trim can also be booked on its own without a full appointment, which is useful between grooms.
Do you groom large breeds and double-coated dogs?
Yes. Pricing runs through five size bands up to XXL, and double-coated breeds have their own place on the price list because the undercoat work takes longer. Shaving a double coat can damage how it regrows, so those dogs get a de-shedding treatment rather than a haircut.
What if my dog is nervous or has never been groomed before?
Tell us when you book. First grooms and anxious dogs are kept short and low-pressure on purpose — the goal is a dog who doesn't mind coming back, not a perfect haircut on day one. Dogs who need extra time and patience are handled that way rather than rushed.
